Foundation Excavation

Foundation and Basement Excavation in Coeur d’Alene

A dry foundation starts with a clean, level, well-drained bearing surface. Benbijnsdorp digs footings, crawl spaces, and full basements to plan depth across Coeur d’Alene and Kootenai County, with over-dig for forms and a compacted subgrade the concrete crew can build on the same week. We handle the spoil, keep the pad draining, and set the elevations so water never pools in the hole.

Why the Subgrade Matters

If fill under a footing is not compacted, the foundation settles and cracks later. We place structural fill in controlled lifts and compact each one to 95 percent of maximum dry density, verified by test. On the rocky or wet lots common near Hayden Lake, we adjust the dig and the drainage so the base stays stable through the freeze-thaw cycle.

Our Process

We call 811 first so every utility is located, then strip topsoil and excavate to the staked lines. Any cut five feet or deeper is shored with a trench box or benched per OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart P. We keep a positive slope out of the excavation for drainage, backfill in lifts, and leave a compacted, square pad ready for footings off Government Way or anywhere in the county.
